Metrorail extension subject to federal audit

A dispute over safety testing for a bridge has prompted the federal inspector general for transportation to audit the Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport in Virginia. The contractor for the project proposed load-bearing tests for just two of the 11 foundations planned for the bridge. The audit will focus on oversight of the project, which is managed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
