Airlines are fully committed to biofuels, expert says

"There is no single silver bullet," when it comes to what alternative fuels may be available for commercial airliners, according to Richard Altman, executive director of the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative. "We view this as silver buckshot." Altman predicts the preferred biofuel will vary by region, according to what grows best in the area. But no matter which type of fuel eventually gains the most traction, Altman says, "[t]he airlines are ready. The understanding of the long-term economic and environmental consequences [of oil fuel] has really blossomed in the last few years."
