FAA announces nationwide roll-out of ADS-B technology

"The next generation of air travel has arrived," FAA Acting Administrator Robert Sturgell said Monday in announcing the nationwide roll-out of ADS-B, the first step in a satellite-guided air traffic control system. Eleven ground stations in Florida will be followed by installations in the Gulf of Mexico and then in Philadelphia, where the large volume of air traffic will represent a technological challenge. The faster roll-out follows an executive order signed last week by President George W. Bush.
