Debate: Is Secure Flight worth the hassle?

A USA TODAY editorial blasts the Secure Flight program as a needless hassle for travelers that does little to improve aviation security. "The nation deserves a smart way to make flying more secure and travelers less hassled," the paper says. "We're not there yet." But Paul Leyh, who heads Secure Flight for the TSA, responds that the program is the most effective, least intrusive means for keeping terrorists off commercial flights. The program was designed "with privacy and security embedded into its foundation," he writes, and 99% of travelers will enjoy hassle-free travel by simply supplying a few additional pieces of information up front.
