U.S. initial jobless claims fall to lowest rate since July 2008

The number of U.S. workers making an initial claim for unemployment benefits dropped last week to a seasonally adjusted 407,000, the lowest level since July 2008, the Labor Department said. The decline was considerably bigger than what analysts had expected. The number of unemployed workers who were already receiving benefits fell to 4.18 million, the lowest rate in two years.
