Carousel Candies, a staple on Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf, celebrates 50 years of making one-of-a-kind candies from scratch. Rick and Liz Elves used candy recipes from the 1940s to start the small-batch candy empire that sells a variety of chocolates like English toffee, turtles, clusters and fudges as well as caramel apples, chocolate-covered strawberries, marzipan and a variety of popcorn. "We have history on our side, and we are fanatical about quality. It's really not magic," said Liz Elves.
