India starts first shale gas exploration with ONGC

Drilling begins today for India's first shale natural gas exploration project with the Oil and Natural Gas Corp. The project, in Jambusar, Gujarat, will cost about $1 million more than a typical conventional well due to the need for additional assessments. ONGC intends to drill at least four wells in the Cambay basin this year in partnership with ConocoPhillips.
