Researchers improve efficiency of solar cells with nanomaterials

Researchers in Singapore have employed a titanium oxide inverse opal and cadmium selenide crystal quantum dots to combine two low-energy photons from the sun into one high-energy photon. This process could potentially improve the energy conversion efficiency of solar cells, they report.
