Union, shipping companies file lawsuit over commission's hiring

The International Longshoremen's Association and the New York Shipping Association are suing the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, alleging it does not have the right to interfere in hiring decisions. The commission says the union and shipping companies are trying to stop it from "fulfilling its mandate to ensure the fair hiring of a diverse workforce in the port."
