Seattle To Phase Out Channel One And Tone Down Advertising In Schools

The Seattle School Board resolved Nov. 21 to phase out the airing of Channel One broadcasts in middle schools and high schools by the end of the 2004-2005 school year and to limit advertising on vending machines to "product or sponsor identification purposes" only. The decision was urged by the Citizens' Campaign for Commercial-Free Schools after a strong lobbying effort aimed at limiting advertising to students.
