China preps for 3G rollout

With its sights set on the Beijing Olympics in 2008, China's Ministry of Information Industry is preparing to issues wireless licenses to carriers early next year so companies will have time to roll out reliable service. TD-SCDMA, or time division synchronous code division multiple access, is likely to be at the center of the licensing frenzy as carriers and users cope with upgrading from 2G to 3G.
