Commercial building costs climb 4.9% on higher labor expenses

Higher labor expenses contributed to a 4.9% increase in commercial building costs over the past year, according to Turner Construction. However, material and energy prices declined in the fourth quarter, keeping construction costs flat. The Turner Building Cost Index remained unchanged from third-quarter levels.
