President-elect Barack Obama is assembling a team of remarkably forceful leaders. If unconfirmed reports prove true, he'll have Sen. Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, former Marine Corps Commandant James L. Jones as national security adviser and Robert Gates as the holdover defense secretary. "It shows that [Obama is] secure enough in his own skin that he's willing to take them on," says Lawrence Korb, an Obama campaign adviser who was a Pentagon appointee in the Reagan administration. Obama's biggest challenge may be getting these powerhouses in sync.
