U.K. Treasury to push banks to step up lending

The U.K. Treasury is working on a series of regulations intended to loosen up bank lending to businesses. The government is warning banks that if they fail to unfreeze lines of credit to companies in difficulty, they could end up fully nationalized. Chancellor Alistair Darling wants banks to give clients more advance notice when they change lending practices.
