AAP updates policy on emergency contraception

Pediatricians should talk to teenage girls and boys about the use of emergency contraceptives such as Plan B and Next Choice when discussing safe sex, the AAP said in a policy statement released on Monday. Doctors are encouraged to offer such contraceptives to teens for immediate use if needed and write prescriptions for future use, but should emphasize to patients that these products should not be used regularly for pregnancy prevention.
