Lawmaker calls on House committee to pass grid security bill

Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., is calling on his colleagues on the House Energy and Commerce Committee to advance legislation that would give federal regulators more authority to issue and enforce regulations designed to bolster the security of the nation's energy grid. The so-called GRID Act, which was introduced by Markey and co-sponsored by the Committee's chairman, Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., has received the support of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. A similar bill was introduced in the last session of Congress but failed to gain traction in the Senate.
