How a Kan. district is rolling out common core standards

School board members in Lawrence, Kan., say they are pleased with how the rollout of the Common Core State Standards is going. The district has used Teachers On Special Assignment to assist other teachers in developing lesson plans and strategies to meet the standards. "I think we're moving in the right direction as far as a more comprehensive learning environment, trying to make it actually translate into the real world rather than just rote memorization," board member Randy Masten said.
