Iowa posts record-breaking year for liquor sales

Iowa posted a record-breaking year for liquor sales and profits during the fiscal year ending June 30 by reaching a total of $256 million in sales, a 5.6% increase over the previous year, the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division announced on Monday. The year marked the highest sales numbers since 1988, when the state became the exclusive liquor wholesaler, and the trend has continued into 2013, with 1.7% gross sales growth in the first four months, says division Administrator Stephen Larson.
