Growth of derivatives markets likely will drive regulation

The Bank for International Settlements released data showing the growth of over-the-counter derivatives markets. The credit default swaps market expanded to $32.4 trillion in the year's first half. Europe's sovereign-debt crisis and debt issues plaguing the U.S. are not expected to derail efforts to ramp up regulation of derivatives markets.
