Writing on the wall: What is the future of cursive lessons?

The Common Core State Standards, adopted by 46 states, do not include cursive handwriting, leading some to question whether penmanship will continue to be taught. In Maryland, the state Department of Education recommends students learn cursive but defers to districts. Some districts leave it up to principals, while elementary-school students in Baltimore and Howard counties are required to learn cursive.
