61 districts are chosen finalists in Race to the Top

The U.S. Department of Education announced Monday that 61 applicants have been selected as finalists in the latest round of the Race to the Top competition, which was open to school districts rather than states. The final list of between 15 and 25 winning districts will be announced at the end of the year, with each district receiving a portion of $400 million in four-year federal grants.
