Next Generation Science Standards draft due out by year's end

While the Common Core State Standards have been focused on reforming math and English language arts education, a simultaneous effort has been under way to overhaul K-12 science and engineering standards, writes education consultant Doug Haller. By year's end, the second public draft of the Next Generation Science Standards is expected to be released. Haller writes in this blog post that the standards focus on science and engineering, while promoting college- and career-readiness and 21st-century competitiveness.
