Single-family home prices post eighth consecutive month of gains

For the eighth month in a row, single-family home prices rose in the U.S. The Standard & Poor's/Case Shiller composite index of home prices in 20 metropolitan areas rose 0.4% in September and 3% from the year-ago level. The eight months of gains mark the longest continuous period of improvement since government stimulus measures boosted prices in 2009.
