Osiris Entertainment, an independent distributor of packaged media, has to be flexible in getting its titles into Redbox kiosks and other outlets, Erik Gruenwedel writes. Renting and selling DVDs in a market where many consumers are more interested in downloading or streaming movies is another challenge, he notes. "Netflix is a great account, but it's highly unpredictable. You never know on the digital side if they are going to order something, because [content licensing is] driven more on [recommendation] queue, demand matrix and demand algorithms, as opposed to human desire to pick up [the DVD] and rent or buy it," said Osiris CEO Evan Crooke.
