Indie distributors work to get their titles to market

Osiris Entertainment, an independent distributor of packaged media, has to be flexible in getting its titles into Redbox kiosks and other outlets, Erik Gruenwedel writes. Renting and selling DVDs in a market where many consumers are more interested in downloading or streaming movies is another challenge, he notes. "Netflix is a great account, but it's highly unpredictable. You never know on the digital side if they are going to order something, because [content licensing is] driven more on [recommendation] queue, demand matrix and demand algorithms, as opposed to human desire to pick up [the DVD] and rent or buy it," said Osiris CEO Evan Crooke.
