Private insurance exchanges: Employers see cost, competition benefits

Employers increasingly see private health insurance exchanges as a way to simplify their approach to employee benefits, take advantage of competition among carriers, reduce costs and offer a broader selection of benefits to workers, Chris Arnold writes. The approach also means shifting responsibility to beneficiaries. "Once you give a fixed amount of money to employees, they will make health care choices that are appropriate or optimal for themselves and their family," consultant Akshay Kapur says.
