FDA fines Red Cross for blood-safety violations

The American Red Cross is facing an additional $5.7 million fine for continued violations of blood-safety rules and failure to correct the unsafe practices, despite a 2003 agreement to do so. The Red Cross plans to formulate a new plan to comply with FDA regulatory concerns and has requested a thorough assessment of its compliance issues.
