Mayo Clinic to release niche device to aid biopsy

The Mayo Clinic today is expected to release the Interactive Breath-Hold Control System, a new FDA-approved device that makes biopsies of the upper abdomen and lungs easier. The device consists of a strap placed around a patient's chest to monitor breathing and a light system that instructs the patient when and where to hold his breath, making it easier for doctors to target a lesion. The device will be marketed by Siemens AG early in 2007.
