Effective Jan. 1, the CMS will implement a decrease in PET myocardial perfusion imaging reimbursements -- from $1,433 to $1,099 -- as part of the final rule for the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System. The move specifically will affect PET MPI for metabolic evaluation and single and multiple rest or stress MPI. ASNC President Dr. Mylan Cohen said in a statement that such a decrease in reimbursement is not new, which strains hospitals and providers when trying to budget for the future. Dr. Kim Williams, ASNC past president, said the "yo-yo" effect of the fluctuating reimbursement rates could push smaller imaging centers out of business.
