Plant retrofits could slow Deere's short-term growth

John Deere saw farm-equipment sales increase 33% in its fourth quarter, but officials say efforts to green the firm's manufacturing operations will likely prevent a repeat performance next year. Deere will shutter several Iowa plants for two weeks in the spring in order to install eco-friendly, low-emission engines, constraining production and flattening the firm's sales of tractors, combines and planters.
