6 suggestions for creating valuable teacher development

Education consultant and former teacher Nancy Flanagan suggests six ideas for teacher development that best meet teachers' needs. Teachers should be asked to define their interests and skill shortcomings to create the most relevant and valuable programs, Flanagan writes. Other suggestions include placing more value on the social capital available at professional conferences, and encouraging teachers to explore and join online professional communities, she adds.
