Feds' wind power drive is focused on cost reduction, offshore wind

The Obama administration's push for wind energy is focused on reducing the overall cost of wind-generated electricity and promoting offshore-wind development, according to Jose Zayas, program manager for wind and water power at the Department of Energy. Meanwhile, the department is working to provide research funding and other supports for wind power because it provides more opportunities to lift the U.S. manufacturing sector than other renewable-energy sources, Zayas added.
