Warren pears pop up across the country

Warren pears, a rare but delicious variety, originated in Mississippi and sometimes make a welcome appearance in farmers markets. The Warren is great for poaching and baking into pies and tarts. "It's got smooth, grit-free texture and an intense, complex flavor, with hints of guava, pineapple and honey," says Al Courchesne of California's Frog Hollow Farm.
