Anti-bullying bills could hurt construction industry

Sexual harassment and bullying in the workplace could become easier to prove now that laws are being proposed in more than 20 states to widen the scope of liability. However, for employers, particularly in the construction industry, such legislation "opens the door for juries to deal with sympathetic plaintiffs in [cases] no employer would ever conceive of as bullying. The approach, though well intentioned, is not well thought out," says Champe McCulloch, president of the Maryland chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.
