Gastric bypass may not have long-term benefits in diabetes

Thirty-five percent of type 2 diabetes patients who initially experienced disease remission following gastric bypass surgery redeveloped diabetes within five years, while many patients never attained remission after the procedure, U.S. researchers said. Surgery appeared to be most effective for type 2 diabetes patients without advanced disease, the study found.
