Gastric bypass might not have long-term benefits in diabetes

Thirty-five percent of type 2 diabetes patients who initially experienced disease remission following gastric bypass surgery redeveloped diabetes within five years, while many patients never attained remission after the procedure, a study in Obesity Surgery found. Surgery appeared to be most effective for type 2 diabetes patients without advanced disease, researchers said.
