NYC's $5B Atlantic Yards: A paragon of modular construction?

When Forest City Ratner and Skanska USA break ground on the first of 15 modular structures for the $4.9 billion Atlantic Yards development next month, the event will mark a milestone in the history of modular construction in New York City. "With this project ... we are also building a new industry that has potential to become New York City’s newest export, a product and process that can transform how construction is done in this century," said William Flemming of Skanska USA Building. Over 60% of the project's modules will be assembled at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's Building 293.
