Schools develop "teacher-experts" to lead PD

While there is a great deal of attention on professional development for new teachers, rigorous programs can be lacking for educators with five or six years on the job. However, with the help of ASCD, some districts are establishing ways to make professional development a continuous experience by developing teacher-led programs. Ann Cunningham-Morris, director of professional development for ASCD, says the key is to "focus on building local capacity and expertise so that you have a cadre of teacher-experts."
