S.D. looks to grow dairy industry by recruiting farmers

South Dakota is at the forefront of efforts by several states to lure farmers from Wisconsin and countries such as England, Ireland and The Netherlands, this article says. South Dakota touts the recent openings of several dairy-processing plants as evidence of its growing dairy industry, and claims that its regulatory and tax structure favors dairy operations. “People have invested a lot of money in the processing industry here. The only piece of the puzzle that’s missing is the farms,” said Jon Davis, CEO of Davisco Food International.
