Medicare to cover obesity surgery, but only for disabled

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says Medicare will cover obesity surgery for its disabled beneficiaries, but not for elderly patients due to safety concerns. Under the policy, patients younger than 65 are eligible if they are shown to have at least one obesity-related health condition and that other medical treatments have failed.
