New research supports statins for those at moderate heart risk

An analysis of studies of statin drugs concludes there are benefits in prescribing statins for people at moderate risk for heart attacks and strokes. The researchers said, however, the cost of the cholesterol-lowering drugs should be weighed against the benefits for people without cardiovascular disease.
