Self-checkout has its fans, critics

Nearly half of the grocery stores in the U.S. offer self-checkout, according to the Food Marketing Institute. Some consumers, however, find the technology inefficient and still prefer waiting for a cashier. "The industry is based on the customers' desires and needs," said FMI's Bill Greer.
