China amends HIV/AIDS numbers

Chinese officials Thursday updated their estimate of the number of people living with HIV/AIDS to 700,000, including 50,000 new cases in 2007, in a combined report with the United Nations. While the overall rate of infection remains low in China, health officials have noticed a shift from blood transfusion-related cases to cases stemming from intravenous drug use and heterosexual sex.
