Report: Facebook may modify controversial ad strategy

BusinessWeek is reporting that online social network Facebook may reverse its recently announced plan to integrate product referrals into user profiles. The ad strategy, dubbed "Beacon," tracks and publishes the activity of Facebook users' e-commerce activity on participating Web sites. The plan sparked a groundswell of opposition from privacy activists and prompted advocacy group MoveOn.org to circulate a petition against the marketing move.
