Crucial economic decisions await the returning lame duck Congress

The future of Bush-era tax cuts, an extension of unemployment benefits and the federal budget are on the congressional agenda during the next two weeks. President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with Republican and Democratic leaders Tuesday to see whether the parties can compromise on extending the tax cuts. If Congress doesn't approve an extension for unemployment benefits, about 2 million job seekers will stop getting checks by the end of December.
