Supper clubs take their name from their Midwestern roots -- Milwaukee-born restaurateur Lawrence Frank opened the first one in Beverly Hills, Calif., in the 1920s. Modern-day supper clubs offer small and rural communities just the right mix of fine dining and casual atmosphere that makes them popular places for weddings and prom dates as well as Friday night fish fries.
