Large retail chains offer more local choices

Stores including Macy's, Lowe's and Wal-Mart are recognizing the appeal of locally produced items and are stocking their stores with local products. This is building stronger connections in retail communities, and companies are seeing increases in same-store sales. "Retailers are realizing they need to get closer to consumers to figure out what they want and how to differentiate themselves," said one consultant.
