AAFP supports overturning Fla. firearm privacy law

The AAFP joined a friend-of-the-court brief that asks a Florida court to overturn a state law prohibiting physicians from asking patients about guns in the home and putting gun ownership in patient records. AAFP board chair Glen Stream, M.D., said opposition to the Firearm Owners' Privacy Act has nothing to do with gun ownership but focuses on the doctor-patient relationship and a physician's ability to talk to patients about gun safety and the importance of keeping them away from children.
