AAR: Rail carloads slip but intermodal grows in latest week

The volume of rail carloads transported by U.S. railroads dropped 4.6% in the week ending Nov. 24 versus year-ago levels, but intermodal activity rose 1.9% in the same period, according to the Association of American Railroads. Petroleum shipments continued to be the highest gainer among the 12 of 20 shipment categories that recorded growth, up 63.6% year-on-year, AAR noted.
