American, Delta primp business class to compete with private jets

To retain business fliers, American Airlines will offer full-flat first- and business-class seats for transcontinental flights on its new Airbus 321 jet. Starting in March, Delta Air Lines will provide full-flat seats in its BusinessElite cabin on flights between New York and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. "[W]e've seen a number of first-class passengers move to private jets and private jet services, which has meant that the business-class sector ... is beginning to expand into the first-class area," said James Park, whose firm is working with American on the upgrades.
