Analysis: Why student-loan defaults are rising

More borrowers are defaulting on student-loan debt in part because the federal government doesn't make loans based on the ability to repay, writes Bloomberg economics editor Peter Coy. Other factors are that many borrowers don't understand they have options for avoiding default and its harsh consequences, and many young people are struggling to find jobs.
